The Truth Behind Hitting Our Children

Life is meant to be enjoyed and loved and cherished - not to live in fear. I have heard many excuses from people who defend spanking their children. Firstly, to be quite blunt, they are excuses and they are lazy. To use spanking as a way to control your children forces them into an existence controlled by fear. Perhaps the most detrimental excuses for spanking is to "protect" them. If what you are trying to achieve is to prepare them for a world where they can be safe and successful, it is imperative to understand that using corporeal punishment in any form will ensure that they are terrified and miserable. Many may disagree with me and say, "Well I was spanked, and I'm fine," but they're wrong. They are not fine. Every decision, every choice, every reaction is made from fear.
